WVAM AGM 2012

As you will all know last night the club held its Annual General Meeting in Ripley Village Hall. It was an important evening for the organization as several positions on the committee were up for change. Significantly John Webster stood down from the post of Chairman after six outstanding years and Teresa stood down from the position of Secretary. We have also created the new position of Vice Chair. Almost 80 people attended to vote and listen to the committee's review of the last 12 months.

Below is a list of the committee roles and responsible individuals

Neil Watson; Chair
Rosario Henshall; Vice Chair
Geoff Berry; Chief Observer
Stuart Gunn; Secretary
Stuart Robertson; Treasurer
Mick Partridge; Membership
John Braddick; Communications
Graham Newton; Regular Riding Event Co-ordinator
Steve McCormick; Off Bike Social sec
Tony Keegan; Recruitment and Shop Liaison
Jeremy Sigger

This is a strong and experienced team profoundly committed to bikes and to WVAM

On a persoal note I am delighted to be taking over the role from John, as we know he will be a tough act to follow. I look forward to working with Rosario and the new as well as established committee members to continue to make WVAM the club we all want it to be.

Neil

Vines vs Bahnstormer

12,000 mile service due on the GS originally purchased from Vines, but this time my lift from Guildford is no longer available, so I'm in for a loan bike. I've given the K1300S a little thought and maybe a test ride would overcome the loan problem. But the decision is Vines or Bahnstormer (Bracknell)???

Motorcycle maintenance session

Ladies and gents,

A while back there was some interest in a basic motorcycle maintenance session.

After speaking with Craig from Azcari yesterday this is something they can put on for us in their workshop in Dorking.

Items to be covered along the following lines -

Safety checks
Levels checks
Oil filter and oil change
Air filter change
Disc pad inspection and change
Road side puncture repair
Initial fault investigation/determination.

The agenda/content has yet to be finalised but it will likely be a two hour session with a maximum of 10 people per session at a proposed cost of £25 per person.

The level of "hands on" is yet to be determined.

Initially can I get a show of hands who would be interested in attending the course/session please?

Date and times to be determined but some indication of weekday, evenings and weekends from interested parties would be helpful please.

Thanks

Steven

Observed Sunday puncture

Some may have noticed that I had a puncture on Sunday, yes but got it fixed with my trusty repair kit.
Safety notice: this is a temporary repair and is not recommended for high speed or long distance.

The puncture was found to be a slit in the main section in the centre of the tyre around ½ “ long, I placed 2 plugs with plenty of glue and all looked fine.
Many thanks to the gent who loaned the electric pump, saved my canisters a treat.

So pumped up and away we go, until we got near to pirbright bends, then that squidgy feel comes on and a soft tyre is detected.
Head off home in the hope that he tyre will stay up long enough to travel the 35 miles to my door.
No such luck, 2 ½ miles from jtn 8 M25 flat.
Applied another plug but no go this time, rode the flat at 8mph along the hard shoulder off the motorway and parked in a lane out of sight.
Called my wife to collect me and then took my bike trailer to collect.
Inspection of the tyre showed 4 separate punctures all around the same size and shape. I believe that once the tyre had warmed up the slits had open up and then failed.

Many thanks to all who assisted in the car park.

Travelling in France

Hello All,

Further to the Club evening on continental travel, please note:

New regulation – motorcycles – effective from 1st January 2013
All drivers and passengers of a motorcycle over 125cc or a motor tricycle over 15 kW must wear reflective clothing when riding their vehicles. In the event of an emergency stop, the reflective clothing still needs to be worn.
The ‘reflective clothing’ must have a minimum reflective surface of 150 sq. cm (approx 23 sq. in.) in total either in one piece or in several pieces, and must be worn in the upper part of the body (between the neck and the waist). A fine will be imposed for non compliance.

On 1 March 2012 the French government confirmed that from 1 July 2012 drivers of all motor vehicles and motorcycles (excluding mopeds) must carry a breathalyser.
The regulation will be enforced from 1 November 2012 and anyone stopped after that date who fails to produce a breathalyser when requested will receive an on the spot fine of €11.
The official announcement states that one unused, certified breathalyser must be produced showing the French certification mark NF. Carrying two single-use breathalysers will ensure that if one is used or damaged, you will still have a spare to produce.

The breathalyser produced has to be in date - single-use breathalysers normally have a validity of twelve months.

Rex
